A Golden Star to G4G is defined as a girl who does amazing things in her community and school. I chose to write about a girl who has soared to heights in her academics and in her community involvement. Her name is Ambria Willoughby most commonly known as Cerria. She is the beautiful daughter of Allison and Artis Willoughby. She enjoys shopping, reading, dancing, spending time with friends and family, soccer, basketball, eating, and texting. She’s the average teenage girl. She is 17 years old and already a step ahead of most. Cerria attends Anson County Early College in Polkton, North Carolina where she is an upcoming senior. Being at Anson County Early College she will graduate with honors and a two-year associate degree in science along with her high school diploma. This young lady was the Junior Class S.G.A. representative, the President of Joy Club, and a member of the varsity girl basketball team at Anson High School in Wadesboro, North Carolina. She, like anyone else juggling so many activities, has had her challenges in school. She says her biggest challenge in school is managing her high school classes, which are all honors courses, and her college classes. She quoted “I have to continuously push myself. I would be disappointed settling for less.”
Cerria has a lot of plans for her future and her impact on society. Reminded of all her activities she maintains a GPA of 3.895 (weighted). ((((She says her plans to better herself academically are to rid herself of everything negative. ))))After completing Anson County Early College she plans to attend East Carolina University where she plans to get her bachelor of science in Nursing. She has dreams of becoming a neonatal nurse and says that immediately after receiving her bachelors she is going to get her masters. Everyone has a source of motivation and I was interested in knowing what kept Cerria going with so much on her plate. Cerria’s motivation, first and foremost, comes from God. Then it’s her family, friends, people, and the world. “Throughout my life many people have changed my world in indescribable ways. I would like to do the same to someone else.”She said. Cerria has received multiple academic awards this school year that made her very proud. She received the Positron Award ( which is an award given to people who do positive things around the school and community), Certificate of Community Service ( which is going beyond the average hours a certain student is suppose to have), Certificate of Achievement, Honor Roll and a 1,000 dollars savings bond from the organization H.O.L.L.A.
Cerria has volunteered at an assisted living complex throughout the school year. She enjoyed being around the elderly people. One day she was telling them about how her school was having their very first prom and the elderly people were so excited. On her prom night she pulled together some of her friends and modeled for the elderly before heading to her prom. “It brought tears to my eyes to see them so happy”. It not only impacted them but it impacted her life. She also volunteered at Anson Partnership for Children and Anson County Schools. Cerria is definitely an inspiration to young girls and young women around Anson and maybe now around the world. I asked Cerria to say an encouraging word to all of you, my Girlfriends, and she said “Stay focused. There is a purpose and plan in each and every one of your lives. Test and trials are going to come your way but we have to stay strong and move on. Always remember we are the community and we give back. Always have goals and work your hardest to achieve them. Put God first in everything you do. Remember there is always someone watching you and you never know how you may impact their life”.
