Look out! There’s a new author on the scene and her name is Ni-Ni Simone. She has a way of capturing and holding your attention to the point where you cannot put the book down. Simone’s way of writing really reaches out to our generation. The way she uses slang in her books really helps you to better relate with the characters. You can understand where they’re coming from and why they feel the way they do. Her writing style makes it easier to receive the message in the story.

In her first book, Shortie Like Mine, you meet a teenage girl named Seven McKnight. Just like any teen, Seven is concerned with her appearance and her weight. She is on the thicker side yet she does not let that hold her back from being one the best dressers in her school. She battles with having feelings for her life-time crush Josiah Whitaker. Although he is one of her best friend’s boyfriends, she just cannot get him out of her head. Seven also deals with her mother and father’s divorce and many other drama filled events that get in her way.

Simone keeps you coming for more with her book, If I Was Your Girl. In this book you get to know Seven’s twin sister Toi a little more. Toi has just become a teenage mother and is now realizing that it’s not all she thought it would be. With drug dealing, cheating, careless baby daddy she continues to struggle for his love and attention. That is until Harlem comes along. However, Toi isn’t too sure if it’s the right move to bring a new man into her baby’s life so soon. Will she move on from her baby daddy Quamir or leave Harlem in the dust?

It doesn’t stop there! Simone still keeps you coming for more. Everyone wishes they had a chance to be a celebrity’s girlfriend. Just image if  that wish became a reality. Well, a young teen by the name Elite gets that chance in, A Girl Like Me. However, with raising her three siblings and looking after her crack fiend mother, she struggles to find the time for her R&B star boy toy, Haneef. She also doesn’t want Haneef to find out about the true living conditions she lives under so she begins to live a double life to get closer to him. Will she end up pushing him away in the end? Or will he leave her once he finds out whom she really is?

The only way you’ll find out is by picking up these three terrific books. Ni-Ni Simone knows exactly what to say to get through to us young women. Her books are clean, fun, interesting, and make you want to keep reading. That’s not all! Simone has a new book coming your way! Teenage Love Affair will be gracing bookstore’s shelves next April. So until then, keep your self occupied and stimulated with these other good reads from Ni-Ni Simone.
